  1. Assignment/Exercise #: Project 1 Due Date:___July 26__

    Points Possible: 200

Objective: To develop a beverage product in 3-D

    Method:

You will conceive a beverage product and distributor, create a dynamic but practical package for the product, and present your completed concept to the class in 3 dimensions.

You may base your concept on any non-alcoholic drink or come up with your own. Color palette and materials are up to you, but must be appropriate for your type of product and target audience. You may not redesign a product that already exists - you must create your own identity for this fictitious drink/manufacturer. Your final package design must incorporate all necessary information, including correct legalities and markings.

    Requirements

    You will:

    • Come up with a concept for a beverage product and distributor
    • Sketch several ideas for a package design and manufacturer/product logo
    • Design a consistent branding identity and color palette
    • Refine the most successful package concept
    • Present your completed design in 3 dimensions as a full scale mock-up

    Suggestions
    • Look at other beverage packages in your drink category to see what kind of design consistencies to which you might want to hold true.
    • Remember that your package must be practical for store presentation and facilitate your item’s perishable needs (if any). If your item must be refrigerated, you should develop a package that allows for shelving cases or possible stacking.
    • You may use empty beverage containers in your piece, but not if the container is a part of its identity (e.g. the shape of a coke bottle is part of the manufacturers identity - that won’t work for this project).
    • It is important that you develop a product design and color palette that meets the aesthetic tastes of your audience. Someone who drinks designer coffee will expect a more sophisticated color scheme than someone picking up a six-pack of root beer.
    • This is a great opportunity to show off your creative design skills! Make sure that you think about the package as an extension of the beverage/manufacturer logo. This is not a time for creative use of white space - most containers scream out a color, material, or pattern from 10 feet away! Use this opportunity to make a full color eye catcher that competes with the other products in the beverage case!
